A BS5163 Resilient Seated Gate Valve is a modern, high-efficiency isolation valve designed primarily for potable water, wastewater, and irrigation systems. Manufactured according to British Standards, it replaces the traditional metal-seated design with a rubber-encapsulated wedge to ensure a "bubble-tight" seal even at low pressures.
1. Key Characteristics
BS 5163 Standard: This is the primary British Standard for gate valves in waterworks. It ensures the valve meets specific wall thickness, material strength, and testing requirements for municipal use.
Resilient Seated: The internal wedge (gate) is fully encapsulated in a high-grade elastomer (usually EPDM). When the valve closes, the rubber deforms to create a perfect seal against the smooth, epoxy-coated body.
NRS (Non-Rising Stem): Standard versions feature a stem that rotates but does not move vertically. This is ideal for buried service (using a surface box) or for use in chambers with limited height.
Full Bore Design: The valve has a straight-through passage with no "sump" or pocket at the bottom, preventing debris accumulation and minimizing pressure loss.
