BS5163 NRS Metal Seated Gate Valve

A BS5163 NRS Metal Seated Gate Valve is a robust isolation valve manufactured according to British Standards for use in water supply, sewerage, and industrial systems. Unlike modern rubber-seated versions, this valve uses metal-to-metal contact (usually bronze or brass) for its sealing mechanism, offering superior durability in harsh environments.

1. Key Terminology
BS 5163: The British Standard that governs the design, materials, and testing of gate valves for waterworks. It ensures the valve is compatible with UK and international infrastructure.

NRS (Non-Rising Stem): The stem rotates but does not move vertically. This is critical for buried service or installations where space is limited, as the valve’s height remains constant during operation.

Metal Seated: The seal is achieved by precision-machined metal rings on the wedge and the valve body.
