A Wafer PTFE Lined Butterfly Valve is a corrosion-resistant butterfly valve designed for handling aggressive, corrosive, or high-purity fluids. It features a compact wafer-style body (typically cast or ductile iron, or stainless steel) with a full lining of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) on the body interior and often on the disc as well. This lining provides excellent chemical resistance across a wide range of acids, alkalis, solvents, and other harsh media.
The valve uses a centric (concentric) design with a resilient PTFE seat that ensures tight shut-off, often meeting bubble-tight leakage standards (e.g., ISO 5208 Rate A). Its wafer configuration allows it to be sandwiched between two pipe flanges, making it lightweight, cost-effective, and space-saving—ideal for chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, semiconductor manufacturing, and wastewater treatment.
Key advantages include superior corrosion protection, smooth flow characteristics, low maintenance, and compatibility with ultra-pure or highly reactive process fluids.
Technical attributes for a Wafer PTFE Lined Butterfly Valve:
Valve Type: Centric (Concentric) Wafer Butterfly Valve
Lining Material: PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), fully lined body and disc (sometimes with PFA or FEP variants)
Body Material: Cast iron, ductile iron, or stainless steel (internally fully lined with PTFE)
Disc Material: Stainless steel (e.g., CF8, CF8M) or Hastelloy, fully encapsulated in PTFE
Seat Type: Integrated PTFE seat (resilient-seated design with metal backup)
End Connection: Wafer type – installed between two pipe flanges per ISO 5752 / ANSI B16.1 / EN 558
Size Range: DN25 to DN600 (1" to 24")
Pressure Rating: PN10, PN16, or Class 150 (max operating pressure typically ≤ 16 bar / 232 psi at ambient temp)
Temperature Range: –196°C to +200°C (–320°F to +392°F), depending on PTFE grade and system design
Face-to-Face Dimension: Complies with ISO 5752 Series 14 or EN 558-1
Stem Material: AISI 316/316L stainless steel, often double half-stem with anti-blowout design
Leakage Class: Bubble-tight shut-off – ISO 5208 Rate A or ANSI/FCI 70-2 Class VI
Operation: Manual lever (≤ DN150), gear operator, or actuated (pneumatic/electric)
Standards Compliance:
Design: EN 593, MSS SP-68, ISO 10631
Flange Drilling: EN 1092-2, ASME B16.1
Optional: FDA 21 CFR for food/pharma, CE, ISO 15848-1 (low emission)
Application Media: Strong acids (e.g., sulfuric, nitric), alkalis, solvents, chlorine, ultra-pure water, corrosive chemicals
Key Feature: Full PTFE lining ensures maximum corrosion resistance and prevents metal contact with process media
