The ASME B16.9 Steel Pipe 3D/5D Bends are high-performance elbows designed for specialized flow requirements. Unlike standard 1.5D elbows, these "Long Radius" bends have a centerline radius of 3 or 5 times the nominal pipe diameter. This gradual curvature significantly reduces internal turbulence, pressure drop, and abrasive wear. They are primarily used in high-velocity gas lines, slurry transport, and "pigging" systems where maintenance tools must pass through smoothly.
